Raum für kreativen Jazz und neue musikalische Möglichkeiten durch die Arbeit mit dem Berliner JugendJazzOrchester.

2024 vergibt der Landesmusikrat Berlin e.V. vier Kompositionsaufträge an Frauen, bzw. FLINTA* Jazz-Musiker:innen. Die Kompositionen sollen für die neue Besetzung des Berliner JugendJazzOrchesters geschrieben und durch dieses einstudiert, uraufgeführt und auch aufgenommen werden. 

Die Kompositionsaufträge sind mit jeweils 3000 Euro dotiert. 

Das Ziel des Projektes ist, im Bereich Jazz das künstlerische Potential von FLINTA* Jazz-Komponist:innen zu fördern und stärker ins Licht der Öffentlichkeit zu bringen. Es wird durch die „Projektförderung Jazz“ von der Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt finanziert. 

Die relativ große und offene Besetzung des Orchesters ermöglicht die Umsetzung von Kompositionen für große Ensembles;  die Kompositionsaufträge bieten daher für die Musiker:innen die Chance, verschiedene und innovative Herangehensweisen in der Entwicklung ihrer Musik auszuprobieren, die oftmals sonst nicht zur Aufführung kommen würden.

Bis zum 15. März können Komponist:innen und Arrangeur:innen ihre Bewerbungen einreichen. Es sind sowohl eigene Kompositionen als auch Arrangements fremder Stücke zugelassen.  

 

 Art und Umfang der Komposition:

 1) Das Kompositionswerk wird als Suite mit einer Gesamtlänge von mindestens 10 Minuten verstanden. Das Werk sollte dabei aus mindestens zwei Sätzen bestehen.

2) Instrumentation der Komposition:

• 2 Violinen
• 1 Viola
• 1 Cello
• 3 Alto Sax (davon opt. 1 Soprano Sax)
• 2 Tenor Sax (davon opt. 1 Bariton Sax)
• 1 Trumpet
• 2 Trombones
• 1 Tuba
• 2 singers (soprano)
• 2 singers (alto)
• 1 Akkordeon (Knopfakkordeon)
• 2 Klavier / Keyboard
• 1 Kontrabass
• 2 Drums / Percussion
• 1 Gitarre

3) Das Preisgeld enthält folgenden Arbeitsumfang: 

=> Honorar für die Erstellung der Komposition

=> Honorar für die Musikvermittlung in Form von 2 Tagen am 21. und 22. bzw. 22. und 23. Oktober 2024. 

=> Reisekosten nach Berlin 

Mit der Bewerbung verpflichtet sich die Komponistin, zu diesen Terminen anwesend zu sein.

• Teilnahmeberechtigt sind alle FLINTA* Personen (das bedeutet alle Frauen, Lesben, inter, nicht-binär, trans, agender Personen)

Bitte schicke uns bis zum 15. März Deinen Lebenslauf, Werkverzeichnis sowie exemplarische Beispiele für Dein kompositorisches Schaffen in Form von Audio (als WAV- oder MP3-Datei bspw. von einem gängigen Notenprogramm wie z.B. Sibelius, Finale, Score oder Dorico erstellt)  und zugehöriger Partitur (im PDF-Format) sowie kurzer Werkbeschreibung (im PDF-Format) zu jedem eingereichten Beispiel. 

Eine Jury bestehend aus Mitgliedern des Jazzbeirats Berlin, dem Orchesterbeirat, der künstlerischen Leitung des BJJO und Mitgliedern der IG Jazz wählt aus den eingereichten Werken Kompositionen aus. Die Entscheidung über die Preisvergabe erfolgt durch die Jury im Anschluss an den Bewerbungsschluss in nichtöffentlicher Beratung. Der Rechtsweg gegen diese Entscheidung ist ausgeschlossen.

SPOT ON FEMALE/FLINTA* COMPOSERS! 

Space for creative jazz and new musical opportunities through work with the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra.

In 2024, the Landesmusikrat Berlin e.V. will award four composition commissions to women/ FLINTA* jazz musicians. The compositions/arrangements are to be written for the new line-up of the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra and will be rehearsed, premiered and recorded by the orchestra. 

The composition commissions are endowed with 3000 euros each. 

The aim of the project is to promote the artistic potential of FLINTA* jazz composers in the field of jazz and to bring it more into the public eye. It is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion through the „Projektförderung Jazz“ . 

The relatively large and open instrumentation of the orchestra enables the realization of compositions for large ensembles; the composition commissions therefore offer the musicians the opportunity to try out different and innovative approaches in the development of their music, which would often not otherwise be performed.

Composers and arrangers can submit their applications until March 15th. Both own compositions and arrangements of other people’s pieces are permitted.  

 

Type and scope of the composition:

1) The composition is understood to be a suite with a total length of at least 10 minutes. The work should consist of at least two movements.

3) The prize money includes the following scope of work: 

=> Fee for the creation of the composition

=> Fee for the music mediation in the form of 2 days on October 21 and 22 or October 22 and 23, 2024. 

=> Travel expenses to Berlin 

With the application, the composer undertakes to be present on these dates.

 

Eligibility to participate:

All FLINTA* persons (i.e. all women, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans, agender persons) are eligible to participate.

Please send us your CV, list of works and examples of your compositional work in the form of audio (as a WAV or MP3 file, e.g. created by a common music program such as Sibelius, Finale, Score or Dorico) and the corresponding score (in PDF format) as well as a short description of the work (in PDF format) for each example submitted by 15th of March. 

A jury consisting of members of the Berlin Jazz Advisory Board, the Orchestra Advisory Board, the Artistic Director of the BJJO and members of IG Jazz will select compositions from the works submitted. The decision on the awarding of the prize will be made by the jury after the application deadline in private deliberation. There is no legal recourse against this decision.
